About

Hi! My name is Datcu Andrei, born on 3rd of May 2002 and I am a Linux System Administrator. I like to call myself a Linux enthusiast since I spend most of my time researching anything about the kernel and doing Linux-related tasks. Also since my work relies on Linux. I started using Linux randomly in 2012 or so by searching for a lightweight alternative to Windows for my grandfather's laptop and haven't stopped using Linux ever since.Don't you refer to GNU/Linux?, you might ask yourself. Yes, I refer to GNU/Linux, more specifically I started with Ubuntu. I used Linux on and off, mostly dual booting, but since 2019 I've been using Linux only.

I've been through quite a lot of distributions: Debian-based, Arch Linux-based, heck, I've compiled and installed Gentoo for the first time on my main machine, but now I am slowly diving into other UNIX certified and UNIX-like operating systems such as AIX, Solaris and BSD-variants.

What do I mainly work with?

Linux, of course 🙂.

Leaving jokes aside, I have experience in many tools and fields:

  • Nagios Core
  • Wordpress
  • TYPO3
  • WHM/cPanel
  • NGINX
  • Httpd (Apache Web Server)
  • Traefik
  • Proxmox VE
  • Proxmox BS
  • MySQL
  • Greenbone Security Assistant
  • Grafana
  • Prometheus
  • Ansible
  • Docker & Docker Swarm
  • OpenLDAP
  • NFS
  • Samba
  • Git (Gitlab, Gitea)
  • AWS
  • Selfhosted Bitwarden & Vaultwarden server
  • Automated backup solutions
  • Automated tasks (shell-scripting, crons, etc)
  • Hosting cloud storage solutions
  • Log rotation
  • Kernel upgrades, custom updated kernels for EOL distributions
  • VPN servers

You can see some applied in my experience page. Learning new tools is not something hard for me, as I am a quick learner, and through experience and gut-feeling, I can even learn things as I go.
